Join us at this Methodenwerkstatt to discuss the complexity of immersion as it relates to different VR examples and exhibition settings. We aim to bring together diverse methodological perspectives in a collective working process to better frame our understanding of immersive experiences.

Virtual reality is often praised for its immersiveness. In the museum world immersive experiences represent a new and complex aspect of audience engagement, in which the promise of immediacy attracts contemporary art and exhibition making, as well as approaches to representing historical situations. However, the term immersion is complicated and contested. We need language and methods to capture and analyse the ephemeral and subjective nature of these experiences to understand their impact on aesthetic experiences and knowledge production.
