Ruhr University Bochum is distinguished by rich art and science collections, founded and expanded since the 1960s. The university holds one of the most important collections of post-war art at a German university, comprising works of minimal, concept and installation art. Further collections include artefacts from West Africa and East Asia, Antiquities, a missionary archive, botanical collections, mineralogical and geological collections, zoological collections, the Siebold Archive and the Museum of Medical History. The university’s collections are united in the BOSCOL network (Bochum Scientific Collections), together with the Archive of the House for the History of the Ruhr and the German Mining Museum Bochum.
